ICGP races 4 and 5

ICGP makes us relive those days with 2 races on the Grobnik Rijeka circuit and next week at Mugello in Italy on the most beautiful circuit in the world.


Both circuits have the characteristic unchanged since the late 70's !!


Arrival in Rijeka on Monday before the race, British riders are already there, happy to enjoy the beach and sun of Croatia.


In addition to the usual riders, coming from Australia Grant Bauxhall on his Yamaha 250cc and two factory Jawa, a 4-cylinder 350 and 250 twin engine in the hands of two Czech drivers Peter Balaz former Grand Prix rider and his friend Antonin Kružík.


Practices and races took place in the dry with an average temperature of over 30°.

Rijeka:

Friday morning the rain invites itself for an hour, then the sun returns and the track is completely dry when riders take the track for their first practice session.


In 350, in the absence of George Hogton Rusling Michele Conti is going to play opposite Guy Bertin, both on Kawasaki.


In 250 Colin Sleigh, unable to come to the race in Brazil, just be sure to keep still the lead in final classification was pleased with one victory and a 2nd place.


Practices were conducted smoothly apart from a warning to Guy Bertin dangerous riding. Colin Sleigh nearly hit Guy Bertin due to a sudden slowdown without reason from Guy.

Sleigh takes the pole in front Tennstadt, Gilbert, Rogers, Wild, Tabarly and Boxhall.

It's Conti won with 19 seconds in advance and securing the lap record in 1'39'404, followed by Bertin, Reuberger, Fau, Peers Jones, Nielsen and Foureau.


250cc


Colin Sleigh, holder of the pole flies from the start and finished with a comfortable lead over Tennstadt, Rogers, Gilbert and Boxhall.

350cc


This time it is Bertin wins leading Conti by 0946 seconds. Lecointe takes the third place followed by Peers Jones and Foureau.


250cc


Sleigh again won the second race ahead of Gilbert and Tennstadt.


Boxhall finished fourth ahead Tabarly and Keller.


Big surprise at the awards ceremony on the podium. The organizers have prepared a special trophy for the 10th anniversary of the ICGP on Grobnik circuit, delivered on this occasion to Eric Saul, from the hands of Igor Eskinja. very nice touch received with great emotion.


It is now time to take the road to the Mugello and as then, caravans truck convoys will follow for this legendary destination.

Mugello:


The spirit of the Grand Prix of the 80's there.


As in the heyday, when the Grand Prix followed each week by week, with convoys of trucks and caravans traveling together. After Rijeka, last week we arrive now in Mugello. ICGP makes us relive those days with 2 races at Mugello in Italy on the most beautiful circuit in the world. Mugello circuit has the characteristic unchanged since the late 70's !!


Practices and races took place in the dry with an average temperature of over 30°.


The circuit opens its doors on Wednesday night. A reserved space in the paddock was already awaiting us. An outstanding organization welcomes us. Nothing is left to chance and it is with great pleasure that riders take possession of the place. Thursday morning's free practice begins on this track considered one of the finest in the world.


Just smiles seen on the rider's faces coming back from this first contact with this circuit to appreciate the majesty of this legendary circuit. Free practice will continue throughout the day. The times are starting to come down.


Friday, 2 lap sessions take place under a summer sun and hierarchy begins to settle.


350cc


Cipriani on the Kawasaki Team Frighi secure pole with 2.40 seconds ahead of Bertin, Fau, Lecointe and Foureau.


250cc


Gilbert on the beautifully prepared ExactWeld takes the same pole to end up in third position overall in the trials.


Sleigh follows him by 2/10th of second,followed by Tennstadt, Rogers, Keller, Boxhall and Tabarly.


In YC 250 it's Levieux Vincent who take pole in front of Gouin and Thomas.


1st race Saturday at 6:30 pm


The practices are now done with and the riders will have all day preparing their bikes for the race.


350cc


Cipriani wins with 33 seconds ahead of Lecointe, Bertin who was forced to retire on the last lap.


Fau is third on the podium then come Foureau, Howarth, Nielsen and Fanchon.


250cc


Gilbert beat Sleigh by 34 seconds, nobody was able to keep up with him.


Tennstadt finished 3rd ahead Boxhall, Keller and Wild.


YC 250cc


Levieux won this category leading Thomas, Gouin had been forced to retire.


As it is custom, a cocktail aperitif is organized in the paddock.


All riders and their crew ending up around the glass of friendship accompanied by various tastings provided by each.


The evening continues with music and a nice podium lady dancers, the companion of Don Gilbert joining and showing her dance moves.


Everyone will then go to bed happy. Sunday's race taking place at 1:00 pm, the riders having time to rest before the race.

Cipriani won again. Bertin forced to retire from the very first round.


Lecointe and Fau completed the podium in front Foureau who in his first season in ICGP, achieves excellent results. then follow Nielsen Guillermin and Fanchon.

In the absence of Gilbert, forced to retire, it's Sleigh who won ahead Tennstadt and Australian Boxhall that rises on the 3rd step of the podium. Wild takes 4th place.


YC 250cc


Levieux won the class ending 5th in overall, the podium is completed by Gouin and Thomas.


It's time to fold the tents after this fantastic season on the continent, the last event to be held in late October on the circuit Goiânia in Brazil.


If the winners of the championship are already Bertin in 350cc and Sleigh in 250 as well as Levieux in YC250, places for 2nd and 3rd in both category are still to be fought for.
